Drawing inspiration from my Jamaican heritage, I am influenced by the picturesque landscapes that have left an impression on me during my trips to Jamaica as well as the pastel street art that I would see in local markets. Additionally, the assortment of plants and flowers, grown in both my grandmothers' gardens (in Jamaica and Canada), have been a significant and constant source of inspiration. The idea of flowers and gardens has always been appealing because, like people, no two flowers or gardens are the same. Clothing style and choices are unique and different just like flowers and plants. To me it is important to embody the uniqueness, beauty, and richness of my Canadian Jamaican culture and to weave their essence into my garments and accessories. Every step I take to create a piece is a labour of love: from my initial design, drafting of a pattern, sewing, and up until my final stitch.
